South Eugene is a combination of two former Eugene schools: University High School and Eugene High School. University High School was established in the fall of 1916 and was operated jointly by the University of Oregon and Eugene Public Schools. The purpose of the school was to give the "Cadet Teachers' from the University of Oregon, the opportunity to experience classroom work. In 1921, music and athletics became part of the curriculum at U.H.S. and the basketball team won the state A Championship that year. "Uni High" graduated its last senior class in 1953, and the underclassmen then joined the student body at Eugene High School, now known as South Eugene High School located at 400 E. 19th Ave, Eugene Oregon.
